Chapter 157 - The Report
Chapter 157: The Report
Meng Fan hadn’t checked his phone since the competition began. Several Wechat messages were from the middle man for his movie posters. The content was more or less the same. First, they expressed their gratitude, then they asked for more manuscripts for collaboration.
These middle men clearly had more than one TV series or movie on their hands, and even a few reality shows. There was naturally a demand for more hand-drawn posters.
Meng Fan’s submission this time had been of high quality, which received their recognition and praise.
Most artists would rush to receive this type of poster making work for a film crew. One, the time requirement was very lenient, two, the requirement for quality was high but the pay was great, and three, if the movie or series happened to blow up, it would be great exposure for the artist or their studio.
As far as the third point was concerned, several emerging artists and their studios would work hard just to find these jobs and do them for free.
For the opposite party in this case who has the jobs, there was never a shortage of artists. In this case, the term ‘boss daddy’ was no joke.
But they really did lack an artist that assured their quality and let them feel at ease!
Of course, Meng Fan was this kind of artist.
Originally, they happily gave him the work on behalf of Meng Cai Wei’s assistant, but now they were purely after Meng Fan’s abilities.
To be honest, when they gave him this job, they had prepared to clean up the trash. It was worth spending tens of thousands of dollars to buy the good side of Meng Cai Wei’s assistant. But after Meng Fan submitted manuscripts, they almost panicked. They now f*cking owe Meng Cai Wei’s assistant instead!
Panic was panic, but it did not prevent them from giving more work to Meng Fan. They were even willing to pay him more, solely based on the fact that his work was good, nothing else.
As long as the posters were badass, they did not care about being a boss, or red envelopes to cut prices or whatever!
There were three middle men who had followed up on Meng Fan’s poster drawing jobs. One of them had given him contracts for two film crews, or four groups of posters.
Everyone was very polite. Immediately they had raised the previous draft fee by a grade. Each one cost no less than 4000, and the highest bid was 6500 each for ten posters.
The most polite thing was that after Meng Fan agreed, they immediately forwarded the money in its full amount.
In no time, 215,000 HXB had been credited to Meng Fan’s account!
Although Meng Fan had produced all the manuscripts within three days, they did not give him a tight deadline. They all provided him with more than a week and especially requested that he take his time. If he wanted to drag it out a few days, then it would pose no problem at all.
Of course, these people were all contacted on the same day by Meng Cai Wei’s assistant, but even if they had known each other, they wouldn’t know Meng Fan had picked up so many of these jobs by himself. Otherwise, even if Meng Fan had a studio working for him, they’d still be surprised by the speed of his production.
However these hand-drawn posters were mostly used for promotional material, so these people will know more or less that Meng Fan was drafting for others as well. As for what kind of shock there were in for, that’s another topic.
A hand-drawn poster had promoted some interesting things. Some people had recognized Meng Fan as a streamer through these means. They then found that Meng Fan’s hand speed was extraordinarily fast, and then discovered something important that recently happened to him; he’d broken some kind of world record. Among them, the wittier ones associated him using his championship to help make posters for XX movies. It was a wave of gimmicks.
Were all world record holders world champions? Heh. They didn’t care about this!
He had originally planned on drawing manga, slacking off, or going on a night tour. Seeing the poster work come in, Meng Fan could only work out his fingers and get to work.
No matter what, he should try to earn 1.5 million HXB soo so he could finish the [Wealth Distribution Cherub] and [One Million Merits] task. Both these missions had very desirable attributes as their rewards.
He had planned to drag out [One Million Merits], but realizing that he has world-class drawing skills even if he specialized in manga and that it wasn’t as difficult to make money as he had thought, he decided to complete them all together.
…
“How much weight did you gain?”
Bai Zhi had been dragged out by Meng Cai Wei for a midnight snack after her recording ended. It pained her to see Meng Cai Wei gorging on the food, but it was admirable at the same time.
“Twenty or so.”
Meng Cai Wei clearly had no dismay towards her weight gain, looking almost too happy as she ate. Seeing Bai Zhi boil food for her but too scared to eat it herself, Meng Cai Wei perked up even more.
It was a luxurious treatment when someone especially boiled your food and put it in your bowl when you ate a hot pot.
“When are you going to cap your weight gain? When is your shoot?” Bai Zhi asked.
Meng Cai Wei continued to eat and said ambiguously, “The crew already began work, I’ll probably join the shoot in ten days. Oh right, I was talking about the script with director Li and he just happened to answer a call, saying one of the actors for the roles couldn’t participate because of an accident. I think the role is fitting for you so I recommended you to director Li. They will probably call you in the next few days, so keep it in mind. The role is pretty outstanding, if you have time in your schedule, you can try it.”
Bai Zhi was not very confident. “Spare me, last time I went to audition for a character I got cut.”
“That’s because the role just didn’t happen to be your type,” Meng Cai Wei said.
Although Bai Zhi partook in all three aspects of film, television, and singing, her acting skills were solid. Otherwise, Meng Cai Wei would not recommend her to the director knowing she had been cut for an audition.
Bai Zhi did not harbor much hope and changed the topic, directing the conversation to Meng Fan.
“Oh did you know Fan set a new world record?” Bai Zhi held out her phone and showed her.
Meng Cai Wei didn’t know. The past few days she had been working on dubbing an animated film. She took the phone and was quite surprised. After reading the article, she paused for a few more seconds. “This brat is getting worse!”
She was curious though. When did this brat learn to play basketball shooting machines? And he got a world record from it too!
There was a problem here… A big one!
Meng Cai Wei felt she had to meet Meng Fan before leaving for her shoot.
…
Meng Fan worked on his drawings and slept around 2:00 am. The next day, he went to school to run his ten kilometers with Wu Tong, then went back home to continue drawing.
There were no classes in the morning, but he had two in the afternoon. But since he had to attend the quarter-finals for the basketball tournament that afternoon, the classes had all been adjusted. This was the first time that the animation department had entered the top eight, and this allowed more people to cheer for the department’s basketball team!
From 6:00 am, the experience for his [News Figure] task had been continuously rising. This was evidently because the interview from the previous day had been broadcasted. Only Meng Fan didn’t know which media agency had published it, nor whether it was a TV channel or newspaper it had been published on.
At around 9:00, the counter on the subtask had risen to 7. Which meant 6 media agencies have already published his news.
At ten o’clock, Meng Fan noticed the experience for subtask 2 suddenly rise by 1 point!
